Dr Kevin Harding

Senior Lecturer Wits


Harding’s research focuses on cradle to grave environmental impacts, including Water Foot Printing and Life Cycle Assessment. He has been involved in studies for several mine sites as well as the paper industry. Kevin Harding is a co-director of the Industrial and Mining Water Research Unit at Wits where research looks at industrial water related issues including AMD, water treatment and more.

Stephen Nyende-Byakika

Lecture and researcher at Tswane University of technology


Dr Stephen Nyende-Byakika is a researcher aimed at water and water waste management. He is currently working on projects relating to GIS and remote sensing modelling techniques aimed at solving water related problems through engineering of hydrological and water quality modelling.

Nomvula Mokonyane

Department of Water Affairs Minister


Nomvula Mokonyane is the Minister of Water and Sanitation in South Africa. She was former Gauteng MEC for Housing and Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. She is now a Member of the National Executive Committee of the African National Congress. Nomvula is also and organiser of the Federation of Transvaal Women and member of Young Christian Students.

Mpho Nawa

Executive Mayor at West Rand District Municipality


Mpho Nawa has been in local government for 11 years, and one of his goals is to improve the skill and accountability of those who serve the public. Councillor Nawa was elected mayor of the West Rand District Municipality (WRDM) last year, and is currently overseeing the merger of Randfontein and Westonaria municipalities into a territory that also includes Mogale City and Merafong City.

Alastair Campbell

Managing Director Vantage Greenx SA


Alastair is a director of Vantage GreenX and a member of the Fund’s Investment Committee. His primary responsibility is the assessment, structuring, execution and post-transaction monitoring of senior debt lent to projects in the sustainable energy space, with a primary focus on the Renewable Energy IPP (REIPP) Procurement Program being run by South Africa’s department of Energy. Prior to joining Vantage GreenX, Alastair headed up the renewable energy finance team within Standard Bank.

Mashale Phumaphi

Managing Director Shumba Energy


Mashale Phumaphi is a Botswana national who has been focused on sourcing, financing and structuring mineral projects in Africa. He was formerly part of the corporate finance team of a London based natural resources corporate finance and issuing house. In addition to conducting investment analysis and research he has raised debt and equity finance for mining projects in both Europe and Africa.

Paul Johnson

Executive Secretary A.F.S.E.C South Africa


Paul currently holds the position of National Committee Secretary for the South African National committee of IEC and AFSEC. He was also instrumental in the establishment of the African Electro Technical Standardization Commission. Prior to Pauls current position he worked for 10 years in the British telecommunications industry.

Nelisiwe Magubane

Director of the Department of Energy


Nelisiwe Magubane is the Director-General of the Department of Energy in South Africa. She has also served as a Senior Engineer for Eskom Holdings Limited, as well as being a partner at Magubane Isibonelo projects. She has vast experience in policy development within the energy sector and is the chairperson of Matleng Energy Solutions.

Knox Msebenzi

Managing Director Nuclear Industry Association of SA


Knox Msebenzi is the Managing Director of Nuclear Industry Association of South Africa (NIASA). He is an Electrical Power Engineer by formal training – from the University of Cambridge and Rensselaer Polytechnic and has obtained his MBA through the University of Witwatersrand. He continuously promotes the cost-effectiveness of developing nuclear power, nuclear waste management and the prospects of job creation and localisation in the nuclear energy market.
